The Rain Chain

Here’s something cool that just got added to the house.  The rain gutters were put in yesterday and on one corner we had them install a rain chain instead of a downspout.  That evening we got a thunderstorm and we got to see how it works.

Here are closeups of the rain pouring down the chain… and into the new landscaping mulch.

Rain chain 2It is an interesting way of handling the water that Joe came across, apparently often associated with bungalow/arts & crafts style houses such as ours.  It is kind of fun to watch it in action.

Standing back to get a good look, I was delighted by a rainbow.  Life is good.

I like it. It is a vast improvement over the downspout!

I love the look of it! Is that an area where there’s a lot of water shed, or is that just a small portion of roof? I’ve seen them in garden catalogs and have always thought they were cool.

All the water from the front right corner of the house comes down here, but it is not a flood. We have “real” eaves troughs at the back where there is more roof coming together, and that worked just great. It is kind of fun to watch the water come down rather than to have it hidden by a tube.

These are great and we’re considering putting them on our house as well – I’m glad to know they work! 😀
