Golden! A Bonus Honey Crop

Can you believe it, our bees were so industrious this summer that we had to go back and steal another 7 gallons of honey so that they’d have room in the hive to store fresh honey from the armloads of goldenrod that is just ripening.  We have never done two honey harvests in one year before.  It helps that we have our own extractor now so it is not such a hassle to go rent or borrow one.  I have thanked the bees over and over but they are not always so gracious.  I have a welt on my leg where one expressed her irritation.

Everything seems to be golden.  The goldenrod is maturing and the future sheep pasture is just about solid gold.  My little vegetable garden is ringed by happy sunflowers that were greeting me this morning, and the brown-eyed susans are stealing some sun in between the taller flowers.  You just can’t help but smile at it all.IMAG0533IMAG0536
