Day two of the deep freeze, and everything is closed down again. However, there is sunshine this morning and it is quite beautiful even though the thermometer reads -9 degrees. By 3:00 pm they predict we’ll be up to +3 degrees, so that’s something to look forward to!
The pond is more frozen than we’ve ever seen it. At its coldest last winter, there was a hole above the bubbler about one yard in diameter with a thick lip of ice around it and little birdies clustered around it sipping as if from a water cooler. Today, you can just barely make out a little hole with a Hershey’s Kiss curl of white snow above it. I am hoping this means it is cold but that the bubbler is still running. I’ll have to bundle up and go check it out later.
We did not get much more snow overnight, so the plowing that was done yesterday afternoon is still good enough to drive out if we really needed to. We still have enough supplies for a few days of meals and tomorrow is forecasted to be back up into more normal temperatures. I would not be worried about my car getting through the snow, but if I did have a problem and got stuck I would not want to be stranded in this temperature waiting for help.
