Snow Day

Whoa, big winter storm!  Fortunately, we had nowhere we had to go today so we could sit gazing out the windows into the opaque white mist as the drifts grew.

I take that back, I did have to go out to visit the chickens and make sure they were all okay. They were not interested in leaving the coop, even to gobble up the kitchen scraps I’d sprinkled into their run.  I noticed yesterday that the rooster stood with one foot curled up close to his undercarriage so he must not be too happy with the weather.  I read that I need to apply some Vaseline to his comb and wattles so they don’t get frostbite.  I haven’t tried it yet, and I am wondering if it is possible to get ahold of him to execute the maneuver.  This might be video-worthy.

  1. We’re keeping a close eye on the weather as we always seem to get what America gets after a few days. Noticed that New York have had it bad, brrr. Keep warm.

So glad I live in the South. Not that it doesn’t get cold (well, cold to us anyway!) but we rarely get snow. And, certainly nothing like you get! Staying indoors on snowy days sounds lovely though. Put your feet up, drink hot chocolate, catch up on some reading…
    Stay warm there!!

We have a break today till the afternoon, and then two more days of winter storm. We hope to have 14 people for dinner on Saturday, so we’ll see what happens.
