Calm Before the Storm

1119141120We have a quiet period now, since the winter storm yesterday.  The forecast says it will pick up again this afternoon through Friday morning.  In such a short time you wouldn’t think we’d be suffering from cabin fever, but we are itchy to get out of the “cabin.”

We’re going to sneak out between the snowflakes and do some errands and visit my mother in the nursing home.  She may not see anyone for a couple of days.  I am going to buy a cabbage for the chickens.  Internet research says that if you hang a cabbage from the rafters in the coop it will keep them entertained so they don’t get cranky and start pecking at each other.  I guess we’re not alone in our reaction to being “cooped up.”

It seems like just days ago that I posted the picture of the pond with the Catalpa tree full of leaves, and then the nice sunrise with the green grass and the bare tree.  Now, we are full on into winter and the pond is halfway frozen over.  How did this happen?1119141120a
