The February Melt

This is turning into a nice, mild winter in Michigan. We have had some hard cold spells, but this week the winds were powerful and the sun shone enough to dry things out pretty quickly. Honestly, the whole house shook in the gale force winds we had the last two days.

It got me out of the house and into the fresh air, which was a lovely change. I checked on the bees, and it looks like two of the four hives are alive and eager to get started foraging. The other two were quiet and still, so I guess we’ll be working on expanding the population again this year.

I couldn’t have said it better myself about the kind of winter we’re having here in southwest Michigan.
